: Shojo means "girl" in Japanese. Consequently, a shojo anime is an anime made for girls, like CANDY CANDY. A Bishojo is a pretty girl and a Maho Shojo is a "magical girl"-an anime sub-genre dating back to LITTLE WITCH SALYL and COMET-SAN. Shojo-Ai, or "girl love" would be the logical term for a lesbian subset of anime erotica, but general usage favors yuri (q.v.)
