: One of the first to arrive was John Maclean, one of the principle builders of the city, who made himself a large fortune in the process. He was ennobled by Queen Christiana in 1649 under the name Makeleer and was royal banker to the queen. His son, also John, was president of the Göteburg Court of Justice.
